On August 3, Santo Stefano al Mare celebrates its patron saint, a special occasion to see the whole village in celebration: colours, markets, workshops of all kinds, fireworks.

Any doubts about the fact that the Saint Stephen’s Day we all know falls on the day after Christmas? The patronal feast day of our ancient village is linked to 3 August 415 AD, when the body of St Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity, was found in Jerusalem.

The festivities usually fall on the first Sunday after 3 August, if it is a weekday. This is always for historical reasons linked to the Napoleonic period when it was difficult to reconcile commercial and religious activities.
